EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
Education is one of the priorities at Penrith Farms Therapeutic Community. If a student has not received their high school diploma there,
are several options available to him or her. Newport High School is the local high school and offers a traditional high school
education. If a student does not wish to attend a traditional High School program then he or she may be able to participate in
the Alternative High School program which is at his or her own pace. If a student is eager to jump into college then he or she
may complete their High School education through the
Running Start Program. The Running Start program allows students to receive
college credits and high school credits for the courses they take.
Whatever option a student chooses, he or she will receive a High School Diploma issued by Newport High School.
In the city of Newport, Spokane Community College has a branch office where students are able to take 100 and 200 level
college courses. This branch allows students to take advantage of the Running Start program, begin working on an Associate
of Arts degree, or get some college courses under their belt before transferring to a different college or university.
If a student does not desire to complete their High School Degree then the Spokane Community College branch office is
where they will be able to complete their GED testing. After a student has been at Penrith Farms Therapeutic Community
for an extended period of time and has demonstrated their maturity, attending the main campus of Spokane Community
College or Spokane Falls Community College in Spokane, WA is an option. Transportation details are arranged on a
client by client basis, but the opportunity to complete an Associate of Arts degree or College Level Vocational
Program becomes a viable option for most students and is encouraged.
