WELCOME TO PENRITH FARMS
Penrith Farms is a Specialized Therapeutic Community settled on
320 acres of timber and farmland in Eastern Washington. Penrith Farms began as a therapeutic program for the State of
Washington in 1983 but over the years evolved into a community
where young men and young women make the transition from their
teenage years to adulthood. At Penrith Farms, young adults
are integrated into a therapeutic community devoted to personal
commitment, communication, and self-discovery where they will
learn the value of honesty, trust, and respect.
At Penrith Farms we empower young adults with the confidence
necessary for them to succeed in an increasingly competitive
society by making them better able to manage their own affairs.
Confidence will be gained through the development of a strong
sense of self-worth, positive work ethics, and communication
skills. In the end, our goal is to make your son or
daughter a productive, self-motivated, and responsible member of
society.
THE PENRITH DIFFERENCE
Penrith Farms surpasses other residential programs because of
our organic structure, diverse community, and round the clock
commitment to the members of the community. The advantage of a
therapeutic community compared to a wilderness program, boarding
school, or residential treatment center, is the ability to
connect with each member from a realistic,
spontaneous, and
honest perspective. The consequence of this type of connection
is a relationship based on trust. Trust is a major consideration
for any therapeutic interaction. Without trust, therapy becomes
nothing more than a word game of “hide and seek” where core
issues are never revealed. Penrith Farms does not waste time on
focusing on symptoms, rather it uses Spontaneity and Trust as a
method to uncover the core issues of the inappropriate behaviors
and decisions that are exhibited by the Young Adult.
The structure of Penrith Farms is dynamic and flexible which
allows us to tailor curriculum and therapy to meet the needs of
each individual without compromising the overall integrity of
the community. Our structure and experience enables us to apply
numerous, creative techniques in addressing each individual’s
challenges. The Penrith Farms community creates daily
opportunities to help students understand the outcomes of their
behavior. Through this process, Penrith Farms teaches students
skills that will help them understand and change any
inappropriate and non-productive behaviors.
Penrith Farms employs a positive peer culture; members are
responsible for encouraging each other to succeed and holding
each other accountable for their words and actions. A positive
peer culture creates a foundation for discovering personal
responsibility and developing essential leadership skills
through appropriate role modeling. The work venues, music
instruction, and horsemanship programs offer opportunities for
young adults to develop effective communication skills
through the process of cooperation and
completion.
